Wrentham area dentist describes the dangers of mercury fillings

Biologic dentists such as Dr. Rawat of Advanced Dental Practices believes in offering a plethora of treatment options to patients that are safe yet effective. He is a member of the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) and works closely with those who visit his practice to provide them with the optimum treatment.

Fillings Explained

When patients have cavities, they often visit the dentist for fillings. Fillings are used to seal off the tooth and keep the cavity from getting larger. Many dental offices in the Wrentham area use silver amalgam fillings. Silver amalgam is a metal that is comprised of approximately 50 percent mercury. Mercury is toxic to the human body. It releases a vapor when warm that can enter the bloodstream or be inhaled, causing a number of issues throughout the body.

Dangers

The dangers of mercury fillings have been studied regularly and it has been shown that their presence in the mouth can lead to mercury toxicity. Mercury toxicity may be difficult for a traditional doctor to pin down because of the many signs and symptoms that may be present. They may be confused with other conditions. Below is just a small sampling of the signs people may be dealing with if they have mercury toxicity:

  • Digestive system issues, including changes in appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or colitis
  • Emotional concerns including aggression, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and mood swings
  • Changes in energy levels with increased apathy, tiredness, and restlessness
  • Neurological problems, including learning disorders, memory loss, ringing in ears, frequent headaches, dizziness, and faintness
  • Problems with the muscles and joints, including cramping, stiffness, weakness, and aches
  • Heart concerns such as irregular heartbeat, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, and anemia
  • Lung problems, which may include shortness of breath, shallow respiration, asthma, and chest congestion
  • A number of other concerns throughout the body including renal failure, water retention, hair loss, insomnia, and allergies.

At Advanced Dental Practices, we encourage patients to learn more about mercury fillings and discuss them with their dentist.
